For my recent birthday, I was lucky enough to be given a Nespresso machine by my brother and his wife. An avid user of a Bialetti Moka, I am now a convert to the totally un-messy nespresso machine, despite its shady Nestle origins :/
The purchase of the capsules is unfortunately locked-down (in a way that makes Apple look like an open-source software house), where you have to actually join an online club at Nespresso website.
The only way to join the club is also to place an order (sounds more like an account then!) and this will be minimum of 10 capsules at about 40 or 50p each.
Which isnt that bad in some ways since an double espresso is soon coming your way.Anyway, in a new development, in France, the Casino brand has developed pods and capsules that are supposed to work in the Nespresso machines and these will be a good 25% cheaper when they go on sale this month, and no doubt different flavours to the Nespresso ones. (of which the Lungo fortissio is my favourite).
They will be available from over 7000 shops, and in the supermarkets Franprix and Leader Price ( who was a kind of discount brand like Tesco value but sold in Franprix iirc when I stayed in france). Later Monoprix too - thers one on the champs-elysees haha. but watch out for Alec Jackson lurking in htere ready with a brocuille
…quote from Liberation.fr website
“Casino assure que les dosettes seront disponibles sous ses marques dans ses 7 500 magasins, ainsi que dans les Leader Price et les Franprix. Une vente dans les Monoprix est à l’étude”
Nespresso intend to fight this legally but I cannot see how anyone will uphold their monopole…le loi - c’est soif
An update, spotted this site www.ne-cap.fr do an empty capsule you can fill up with your own ground. Ooh, sounds even better!
2nd update! UK people can now make and receive orders: Rob replied to me on a messageboard with this info:
the Ne-Caps seem pretty good although a bit fiddly, I ordered from here: http://www.ne-cap.com
The Nexpods I got from here:
http://nexpod.beromax.ch/
The nexpods seem more re-usable if that makes sense, the ne-cap pods although they work pretty good they seem to almost get destroyed in the process hehe.
He goes on to conclude that neither are cheap enough to warrant the extra hassle, unless they actually start being sold in supermarkets. Take heed, alternative Nespresso capsule manufacturers! Thanks to Rob for the info.
