this seems like a great Linux distro - small to download, even as a live CD, can install to SDHC for eee-pc use and so on. Also comes with GParted, so should be able to re-format our ext3 disk:

there is a way to mount ext3 OS X (Leopard only? ) http://fuz2y.com/?p=1 according to that post. We have a USB drive we use to backup our work server.
We have a NAS at work - it failed to format the attached USB drive as FAT so we did it as ext3, then thought we could easily format this in another OS as FAT, as the NAS software seems a bit scant sometimes.
We are now having to download a mini linux live CD to try this way, if I cannot get the mac way above to work. Gah!
