An interesting, and recently done site devoted to the final Merzbau project of artist Schwitters, unfinished Merzbarn in Cumbria:
http://www.merzbarn.net/
there is also a wonderful Dutch site on the barn project - with detailed photographs and outline of the work.
in the above video clip, from a generously posted series, is Max Ernst and toward the beginning, short footage of the Merzbarn, and Schwitters during the war.
Interesting news today that I read on Slashdot: a Nokia Maemo (e.g. nokia 770 / 800 / 810 series ) project called Liqbase (liqbase.net) has been accepted as a Google summer of code entrant.
this is great news as it seems a wonderful, fun project, and creatively simple in its idea of converting the tablet into an enhanced piece of paper. It won’t work on my 770 but will be ported to 800 (if not already - need to check). 800s are pretty cheap now.
check out the videos and the feature descriptions in the home-page:

this seems like a great Linux distro - small to download, even as a live CD, can install to SDHC for eee-pc use and so on. Also comes with GParted, so should be able to re-format our ext3 disk:
guide to puppy linux - http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-6171315.html
there is a way to mount ext3 OS X (Leopard only? ) http://fuz2y.com/?p=1 according to that post. We have a USB drive we use to backup our work server.
We have a NAS at work - it failed to format the attached USB drive as FAT so we did it as ext3, then thought we could easily format this in another OS as FAT, as the NAS software seems a bit scant sometimes.
We are now having to download a mini linux live CD to try this way, if I cannot get the mac way above to work. Gah!
a short poem by some poster on Digg
My intentions are good, but the execution is poor. As I lie on the ceiling and stare at the floor

amazing little website for wordsmiths. One fo the weekend. Good times. (I can hear the sirens coming)
Lying in bed, warmed by an oil heater and an hour of smiths singles. Sound sooooo good on my mega hifi setup; remastered;repackaged;remembered!
Just thought I’d post what I found out about coming up with a solution for a non-profit organisation for a custom site search engine. For example if you want users to obtain an accurate set of results of pages from your site.
the Google service provided for this is pretty good, and would seem to work well on the few sites I checked. The only thing you need to be sure of is the terms and conditions. With a non-profit these are pretty fair - the ads can be turned off and you can style the results page to get the look and feel of your site. So a professional search in look and exceution can be cooked up in a few minutes. The labels feature si pretty cool too, so you can guide users to content better.
The only thing I found a stumbling block is the look of the little search box itself, although it is a small price to pay I suppose. The minimium width for this will be 120px if you want the watermarked version or smaller if you are prepared to ahve the Google logo sit outside the box. The latter option is a bit off-putting though I feel.
You can read more about this http://code.google.com/apis/customsearch/docs/ui.html
The support search forum has changed now - so make sure you look at the current one: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/customsearch?hl=en&start=40
I also looked at RollYo and Yahoo BOSS search / custom search but these didn’t seem to do what I Wanted - a search for a specific site, by using the already spidered pages.
any advice/comments ?

A long article on Artist run galleries.
http://www.shiftyparadigms.org/artist_run.htm
mentions Transmission Gallery quite often as a case in point.
